Camera Agent

A photography teacher that gives me one thing to learn, one photo to take, and feedback on the result.

Why I built it

I bought a camera I wanted to get better at using. I needed a way to practice that knew my gear and what I had already learned, with a clear next step I could take outside.

What it does

Camera Agent organizes photography into a skill tree. It picks an available topic, expands it into a lesson and an assignment, and keeps track of my progress. When I submit a photo, it checks the image against that assignment’s criteria and explains what worked and what to try next. I can also ask photography questions in Telegram, using context such as my gear, the active assignment, and shooting conditions.

What I built

A photography module inside Outdoor Inventory. A fixed curriculum defines the topics and prerequisites; AI expands the lesson only when I reach it. A separate vision-capable model reviews the submitted photo against the saved assignment. The web pages show the curriculum and assignment history, while Telegram handles the conversation and submissions. Keeping the learning path, the assignment, and the critique connected gives each practice session a specific purpose.

A learning path with a concrete next step.

01 / THE SKILL TREE

See what comes next.

The curriculum separates topics I can start from those that depend on earlier work, and keeps the active assignment easy to find.

Skill tree view for the photography curriculum, showing 0 of 59 topics completed, an in-progress Exposure Triangle assignment, and two branches — Operating Camera and Seeing — broken into foundation-through-craft tiers with locked, available, in-progress and completed states per topic
02 / A SINGLE TOPIC

Turn a lesson into a photo.

Each topic pairs the theory with an assignment. The submitted photo is reviewed against the criteria saved with that assignment.

Most of what's on this page started as a problem I was annoyed about. Happy to talk through any of it, or yours.
